With MaGlobe,
you are independent and free to use the service
from any MaGlobe location.
When talking of
mobile computing, A little known fact is that
you can use your handheld/notebook/any other
computing device and connect to the internet
using your mobile phone instead of a
conventional phone line. Wireless Data Cables,
also know as "Data Connectivity Kits" allow your
digital phones to act as a wireless modem. With
the appropriate data kit for your phone, you can
have wireless access into the MaGlobe network.
Data cable kits connect directly to your
notebook / handheld via the serial port/PCMCIA
slot.
The second
method is to use infrared technology to connect
your mobile phone to your computer. This would
require that both your computing device and your
mobile phone have infrared ports. This would
generally require that your mobile phone has a
built in modem.
Nokia for
example provides a Nokia Data Suite to connect
to connect a compatible Nokia GSM phone to your
notebook / handheld. Nokia also provides the
Nokia Data Card which is a phone and a modem
combo device that you can plug into the PC card
slot, turning a laptop PC into a mobile office.
The solution
you can use depends on your phone model and the
device you want to connect to. Armed with the
connectivity solution, you can use MaGlobe to
establish a wireless dialup connection to the
internet when you are on the move. The connect
speeds over a GSM network are currently limited
to 9600 bps but technology is evolving to enable
higher data connection speeds. The new GPRS
services being successfully tested in Australia
would mean data transfer rates of up to 50kps
are possible in the near future.
